Mr Taylor was born in Coventry and moved to Leamington aged 14 while Mrs Taylor (nee Parkes) moved to the area from Ledbury at the age of two. They met at a party on April 1, 1961, and their first date was to see the Alec Guiness film Tunes of Glory. Mr Taylor was once in charge of Wedgnock Dairy which he took on as a franchise while Mrs Taylor trained as a shorthand typist, with Leamington fire station being one of her places of work. The couple enjoyed dancing and won medals for ballroom and Latin. These days Mr Taylor is a member of Leamington Spa Bowls Club and the couple are involved with various social groups and love the theatre. The couple have two sons and four grandchildren who will attend when they renew their vows. Because Mr and Mrs Taylor never had a honeymoon, their sons bought them a holiday in Jersey where they got engaged.
