THE winners of the annual Rugby Open exhibition, presenting the best artwork from the area, have been announced.

Work on display is in a variety of media from painting and photography to ceramics, textiles and 3D work. Many of the works are for sale, providing an ideal opportunity to purchase a unique Christmas gift.

There are several prizes on offer for artworks presented in the exhibition. The first prize of best work in show is chosen by the judging panel and is a £1000 award towards an exhibition in the Floor One Gallery, supported by Rugby Borough Council’s Art Gallery and Museum. The art gallery also supports a people’s choice prize of £100 for the visitors favourite work.

Other prizes are kindly sponsored by local businesses and organisations and include an award from Morgan Sindall, and an award and trophy from Rugby Decorative and Fine Arts Society. The Andrew Varah Cabinet Makers and Furniture Designers award was for the first time this year presented by the family of Andrew Varah in his memory.

The winners are:

Rugby art gallery and museum first prize

Lilly Gardener for Yellow Afternoon, an acrylic on canvas

Andrew Varah award

Alice Riddy for ‘Peter and his Rabbit’, a medium format film photograph

Rebecca Roberts for Eudy Similane, a charcoal and pastel

Morgan Sindall

Eric Gaskell for Braunston Dry Dock, a multi-block lino print

Visitors to the exhibition have until the 8 December to vote for their favourite work, with the winner of this public choice getting a £100 prize.
