Witness plea after woman died in M6 accident early on Saturday morning

A woman has died following a three vehicle collision on the M6 in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police were called at 4.44am to attend the incident on the M6 northbound between junctions one for Rugby and two for Coventry.

The crash involved a Ford Fiesta, a Nissan and a Vauxhall Astra, and fire service and ambulance crews also attended.

An occupant of the Fiesta, a woman in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The police have not formally identified the victim at this stage so while she has been named locally on social media, the Advertiser will not be reporting this.

The road was closed for several hours and later reopened at 2.10pm. Warwickshire Police is appealing for witnesses to the collision and to anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision. Please call police on 101, quoting incident number 71 of April 23.

n A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently on bail until June 10.
