Witnesses to 1am Sunday morning fight outside the clock tower sought by police

A 23-year-old man was knocked out in an attack near the clock tower in Market Place shortly before 1am on Sunday July 29.

Police have described it as a “serious assault” and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. The victim sustained a broken jaw and injuries to his shoulder as a result of the incident and is still undergoing hospital treatment.

A statement from police said: “At the time of the attack there would have been a lot of people in the town centre as a result of the town centre night clubs, and police are appealing to anyone who was in the area and who saw anything related to the assault to come forward.

“Although there is no description available of the person responsible for the injuries, the victim is described as being over six feet tall and of slim build and was wearing a white tee-shirt.”
