Woman seriously injured in a robbery in Rugby

A 70-year-old woman suffered serious injuries during a robbery in Arches Lane, Rugby yesterday morning (Thursday).

The incident happened at about 10.20am as the woman was returning to her place of work.

As she got out of her car she heard a sound and turned to see a man running towards her. He barged into her and using his body pushed her to the floor. He ran off with her brown Prada handbag which contained cash and other items.

The offender is described as a white male of medium height and stocky build. He was wearing black clothing including a beanie hat or balaclava, and his face was covered.

The woman was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire with a suspected fractured left femur and hip and was due to undergo surgery today.

Police investigating the incident would like to hear from anyone who witnessed it or saw the male hanging around Arches Lane.
