Work has started on a new £50,000 play area in Binley Woods.

The updated playground will be at the recreation ground in Craven Avenue.

Rugby Mark Pawsey met with children from Binley Woods Primary School to launch the work.

Mr Pawsey said: “It is a wonderful project to be involved with and one that the children have been instrumental in getting to this stage.

“Outdoor play is a must, and the excitement of the children today will certainly encourage this.”

The project is being funded by WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund and will provide much-needed equipment once it is completed.

WREN is a not-for-profit organisation that provides grants to projects which enhance the environment.

Chair of the council, Councillor Paul Salisbury, said: “It is great to see our vision for this vital community facility moving towards reality.

“We are extremely grateful for the funding that WREN has provided, and we are looking forward to seeing the children of the village getting great pleasure from the equipment.

“The health and wellbeing of our children is uppermost on the Parish Council’s agenda. This is a vital step toward our goal and thanks to WREN, it will soon be achieved.”

He said the work conducted by the Parish Plan team in partnership with local schoolchildren and contractor Sutcliffe Play has also brought the community closer together.

Paul added: “This togetherness can only be good for a rural area”.
