Young girls help raise money for medical scanner in memory of nan

And the latest fundraising effort by Olivia Mugford, aged eight, and Mia Jarrett, nine, saw more than £650 raised at Wolverton Village Hall towards the money for the British Lung Foundation’s scanner appeal.

Olivia’s nan Doris Ware, known affectionately as Nanny Doll, died aged 82, in March after suffering a debilitating lung disease for 10 years.

After the death Olivia decided to do something for charity to honour her nan and Mia said she would join in.

The two Wolverton Primary pupils formed a committee with their school mates to organise the fundraising event last Saturday and raise money for the appeal.

They came up with fundraising ideas, collecting items for a table-top sale and also manned stalls, including popcorn and a nail polishing.

And Russell Waldron, of Claverdon, who runs wedding and party discos, provided his services for free, to help the cause, and there were also games and a raffle to keep visitors entertained.

Olivia’s mum Beccie said: “Olivia was very close to Nanny Dolly and when we lost Dolly, she said she wanted to do something for charity.”

Mia’s mum Sally said: “It went really well. There was lots of help and enthusiasm from the girls’ friends and from the families and friends.”
