A creative member of Pailton Young Farmers Club has come first in a national fashion contest.

Jess Morgan won the Warwickshire round of the ‘Journey of Tweed’ competition back in May, and last week beat off entries from over 40 other counties across England and Wales at the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs’ annual Competitions Weekend in Stafford.

Jess, who is in her first year studying Fashion Design at Birmingham City University, showcased her research, creative and design skills by producing a display telling the journey of wool from field to fabric, as well as designing a garment made from British tweed. The competition was judged by representatives of the British Wool Marketing Board, who were so impressed with Jess’s work that it’s now on display at their head office in Yorkshire.

Jess said: “I still can’t believe it. I’ve always loved taking part in Young Farmers competitions, but to come first in the national final is amazing!”

Pailton YFC is one of ten Young Farmers Clubs across rural Warwickshire, whose members aged ten to 26 take part in a wide range of weekly meetings and talks, competitions from football to fence erecting, and international travel.
