Young performers to raise the roof for the homeless at Leamington gig

TALENTED young artists and musicians are coming together in Leamington on Wednesday to raise funds for their homeless peers.

Music, comedy, dance and film by youngsters from around Warwick district will be performed at Hybrid Arts centre in Spencer Yard on Wednesday in support of Warwick-based charity Roof, which helps 16 to 19-year-olds who are homeless or in need of housing advice.

Charity project worker Gary Timlin said: “This will be a wonderful event to champion local young people’s talents. I am particularly enthused with Warwick area youth forum for their willingness to support the Roof project.

“These young people have picked up the torch and carried it to brighten up our most vulnerable young people’s lives.

“They have shown they really care and they strive for change. We hope this event will raise awareness and show people that if there was only one homeless person in our county, that is one too many. Our young people are leading the way - let’s hope more adults take a leaf out of their book.”

The event, which has been organised by the Warwick district youth team with support from the Indestructible Music Club at Hybrid Arts and many other arts organisations from the area, will be opened by Warwick and Leamington MP Chris White at 5pm. There will be an open house session and arts workshops going on until 7.30pm, followed by the gig at 8pm. Tickets are available from Lillington, Warwick, Kenilworth and Campion youth centres or call Claire Mitchell on 742486.
