RUGBY youngsters have showcased their skills at the third Rotary Young Musician Competition.
Ten musicians - three singers and seven instrumentalists - took part representing four schools at the event on Thursday at Lawrence Sheriff School.
Andrew Atkins, director of Warwickshire County Music Service, praised the performers saying it was very difficult to choose the winners. Two runners-up prizes were given in each category to James Heatcote (cello) and Sam Tiller (clarinet) for instrumental, and to singers Howard Weyman and Niamh Gold. The vocal category was won by Jacob Palmer, 14, while oboeist Daniel Heathcote, 13, came out on top in instrumental. He was accompanied on the piano by his brother James. They will now represent Rugby in the District (West Midlands) Rotary Final on February 13.
