Youth group gears up for Africa

A GROUP of young people who are organising their own trip to Sierra Leone have begun the task of raising the £12,000 they need to fund it.

The youth group of One World Link, a friendship link between Warwick district and Bo city in the west African country, are planning to set up IT and communications skills sessions for their counterparts in Sierra Leone during their two-week trip next spring.

This week six out of what will be a ten-strong group began planning for the exchange by presenting to Leamington mayor Cllr Alan Wilkinson an application for £2,000 from the town council’s community grants scheme. The youngsters also plan to raise £500 each through fundraising.

Ben Wesson, who leads the group and has recently returned from a similar exchange in Brazil, said: “It’s quite exciting. It’s been two years in the planning.”

The trip will be followed by a visit from One World Link’s Bo youth group in 2013.
