After making great progress last year in the goal to get as many people enjoying cricket as possible in the local area, Barby Cricket Club are preparing for the new season.

On the field last year Barby won the Senior and U11 cups and the Northamptonshire Division of the National Village Knockout. They also saw the second X1 promoted to the Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division and fielded a third X1 for the first time. Off the field after a lot of hard work, Barby obtained Clubmark accreditation and forged links with the Northamptonshire Cricket Club and the MCC.

The club was also once more rated as having one of the best grounds of over 100 in the Warwickshire League which is a credit to groundsman Will Sinclair and his helpers.

This year the focus will be on building on this momentum with a key emphasis on the junior section of the club.

Mark Westley will be managing the junior section this year and has been working over the winter to put a solid structure in place to provide cricket coaching by ECB qualified coaches for children aged five upwards.

This season Barby will be entering U11, U13 and U15 teams in the Rugby League and running coaching sessions on Friday evenings for children of all ages. They have invested in their coaches over the winter with six more receiving ECB qualifications so all teams will be given structured coaching in a safe environment.

Friday sessions will start this year on Friday April 12 with a registration session at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to come along. There will be a lot of structure around the junior section this year and the club will be ensuring that they communicate regularly via email andtheirr website

Membership will be £25 for the whole season which will cover the cost of all coaching and matches.

This year the First Team will continue to play in Warwickshire Division 1 and the seconds have been promoted to the second XI Premier League. The third XI has entered the Northamptonshire League and start on April 27 with a trip to Rushden Town. They will also be running Sunday and Wednesday night sides and a ladies team so there will be loads of cricket to be played.

Everyone is welcome at Barby to play, watch or just pop along for a drink. If you are interested please drop them an email to
