Beaton whitewashed by Taylor in Gibraltar Darts Trophy last eight

Steve Beaton’s run to the quarter-finals of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy was halted by a masterful display by 14-time world champion Phil Taylor.

Beaton, who was pushed all the way by Connie Finnan in the second round, hit back from 4-3 down to beat Scotland’s John Henderson to reach the last eight, landing a key 180 and double four in the 11th leg for the win.

However, he found Taylor in imperious form in their quarter-final clash, with The Power averaging 112.73 on his way to a 6-0 whitewash.

Beaton, who himself averaged more than 100, was first to a finish in the opening leg and was also punished for missed doubles in the third.

However, that was the closest he got as Taylor reeled off legs of 14, 14, 13, 15, 11 and 13 to complete the whitewash.

Taylor went on to beat Welsh youngster Jamie Lewis 6-1 in the final.
