BOWLS: Final Thornfield gala of the season

The final charity gala of Rugby Thornfield’s winter season saw 16 teams raising funds for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

One round in and there was a six way tie for top spot, Yellow Copter, Mellow Yellows, Ancient & Modern, Yellow Rose of Texas, Fly By Night and The Snowballs all had seven points. Heading into the half-time break Mellow Yellows had taken a one point lead over Cobblers, Yellow Rose of Texas and Ancient & Modern in joint second, Fanny’s Fantom Flan Flingers completed the top five.

With the final set of games to play Cobblers had joined Mellow Yellows in first place, three points clear of Yellow Rose of Texas and Ancient & Modern in joint third. In joint fifth were Fanny’s Fantom Flan Flingers, Misfits and Break Free.

A thrilling final round saw just two points separating the top three, it was Mellow Yellows (Mandy Dahlgren, Sue Henderson, Pat Dahlgren and Bob Henderson) who took the title with 25 points, 24 points secured Cobblers second while Ancient & Modern had to settle for third with 23 points. Fourth place went to Fly By Night with 19 points, one point ahead of Nonames and Break Free in joint fifth.

* On Saturday, April 23 Rugby Thornfield Indoors is hosting an Open Under 16s Singles competition, starting at 9.30am this is a chance to come along and support the stars of tomorrow. There will be a spider and a raffle, with prizes donated by various bowls equipment providers as well as food and a licensed bar. Entrance is free and all money raised will be going to support Rugby Thornfield’s Junior Section.
