The show goes on for a rejuvenated Jackie Turpin ABC

Jackie Turpin ABC will rubber-stamp their rebirth on Saturday evening with their first fight night since they emerged from the ashes of Warwick Racing ABC.

Less than a year since moving to a permanent base under the main stand at Warwick Racecourse, the boxing club is putting on a 12-bout show at The Assembly.

Warwick and Leamington boxers will make up the bulk of the card with Libby Durrant leading the Jackie Turpin contingent as he looks to build on November’s impressive win at the same venue.

Cleary’s ABC will provide five boxers including Rheece Cleary, son of gym owner Edwin, Dan Quartermaine and Jai Rai Singh.

Nav Singh Manku will also be in action as he builds up to his English University final against Sunderland’s Jake Slater.

The highlight, however, will be a match-up between Cleary’s Sean ‘Suga’ Greenfield and Wodensborough ABC bruiser Dezzy Bowater.

The vastly experienced Bowater has had more than 60 fights, winning over 40 of them and his come-forward style should provide the perfect contrast to switch-hitter Greenfield.

The Jackie Turpin Memorial Cup will be on offer for the best local boxer of the night, while there will also be representation from London, with Palmers Boxing Academy providing fighters for the show.

Negotiations are still ongoing with two female boxers and club treasurer Lydia Turpin said the show, on the back of similar successful nights for Cleary’s, underlines the depth of talent and support for boxing in the district.

“This show has been a long time in the making,” said Turpin, who is the granddaughter of Jackie, the middle brother of the famous boxing siblings.

After a difficult 2012, the committee members and trainers have worked hard to get the show off the ground and we are continuing to work hard to ensure its success.
