Disappointing weekend for league teams
Warwickshire Division One
Barby 1st XI v Marston Green
The first XI were at home to Marston Green and having won the toss decided to field first. The Marston Green innings was built around 67 by Zaheer Suliman, although Barby took wickets at fairy regular intervals single wickets for James Wynn-Evans, Adam Shay and Will Sinclair runs continued to flow. The introduction of Rob Stipanovic 3-72 and Tom Gleghorn 3-13 saw a number of late wickets and Marston Green were bowled out for 213.
Barby never really got to grips with the Marston attack lead by Nawaz, who struck early and continued to take wickets finishing with 7-30. Only Tom Gleghorn 20 and Will Sinclair 18 made any contribution as Barby were bowled out for just 102, with again Barby’s batting being the reason for their problems.
Barby 2nd XI v Sheldon Marlborough
The second XI were away to Sheldon Marlborough and having lost the toss were asked to field first. Despite wickets for Chey Manzella 2-87 and a good spell of bowling from Tom Hill 4-58, Barby were always up against it with Ahmed hitting 84, Barby failing to capitalise on several catches that went down. There were also wickets for Seth Westley and Jo Oliver, as the home team reached 275-8.
In reply there were useful contributions from Jo Oliver 20, Rob Field 37 and Tom Hill 38 with Barby reaching 175 all out, Adam Reed taking 4-33. If Barby had taken their chances the result may have been very different.
These results see both Barby teams second bottom in their league.
Barby 3rd XI v Old
The Third XI were away against Old and batted first and looked to have hit a winning score as captain John Hardbattle reached an unbeaten 116 as Barby reached 224-6. The other contributions were from Stuart Cox 23 and Richard Ansell also 23. However, runs on the board did not appear to make much difference as Terry Eaglen took to the Barby attack hitting 115 not out. He was supported by Thanley who made 40. Old reached their target with five overs to spare with the loss of just five wickets. Dave Sherwood was the pick of the Barby bowlers with 2-34. There were wickets for Stuart Cox, Tom Lynch and Graham Lamb.
Barby Sunday XI v Everdon
The Sunday XI faired far better in an away game at Everdon on a hot afternoon. Batting first on a slow, low wicket runs were hard to come by, but contributions from Barry Taylor 29, Rob Stipanovic 27 and a late flourish from Loz Mead 56 saw Barby reach 171 all out 3 wickets for Cousins and Capel. In reply J Capel hit a fine 74 not out, but Barby took regular wickets, Dave Cater taking 2-19 on his debut, along with two wickets for Mead, Oliver and Blanks. Barby bowled the home team out for 150.
