Barby won by 178 runs

A consistent batting performance set Barby up for a 178 run victory over Kenilworth 1sts at a sunny BCG.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat Barby made good use of the wicket scoring 282-9 in 50 overs with James Wynn Evans restored to the opening position making 59 and the middle order pair of Tom Gleghorn and Rob Edom making 55 and 51.

Captain Joel Gleghorn contributed 40 not out and Craig Scott 23 as Eddison Ruswa took 5-84 for Kenilworth.

In reply Kenilworth raced to 50 in 8 overs before openers Guy Pearson 28 and Chris Prophet 26 were dismissed in quick succession.

This led to a batting collapse as Kenilworth were bowled out for 104 in just 23 overs as James Wynn Evans followed up his batting with 4-21 and Danny Scott 4-26 as Barby ran out winners by 178 runs.

Bournville v

Barby 2nds

A seamer shortage cost Barby 2nds dear as they went down to a 5-wicket defeat at lowly Bournville on Saturday.

Batting first Barby struggled to make headway as nobody could really come to terms with the vagaries of a poorly prepared pitch that saw some extravagant movement in all directions from start to finish.

With more established batsman lacking application it was left to third team skipper and Chairman John Hardbattle (32) together with his son Joe (17) and debutant Tom Stevenson (33 not out) to make the runs.

Under 13s skipper Alex Watson also making his debut also contributed late runs as Barby finished their innings at 171 for 9.

Skipper Rob Field was happy with runs on the board but that smile was quickly removed as Barby made a disastrous start with the ball. Everything that could go wrong did as no pressure was established and a number of relatively straight forward catches were grassed by the normally reliable fielding unit.

Amidst the mediocrity, all rounder Rich Tarrant bowled his gentle seamers tidily whilst spinners Matt Nobes, Matt James and Rory Long both created chances with little reward.

A game that should have been won slipped away and skipper Field will look forward to welcoming back the army of pacemen who all chose the same day to be away.

Warwick University 154-10

Barby won by 6 Wickets

Barby Sunday XI cruised to a six-wicket victory over Warwick University under the captaincy of 15-year-old Joe Hardbattle who, after winning the toss, inserted the visitors who due to a fine spell of bowling by Chey Manzella 5-21 were bowled out for 154, with Ebrahim Saud top scoring with 51.

Barby’s reply was based around a third wicket partnership of 102 between Jack Randle 65 and Chey Manzella, who enjoyed a fine all round match scoring 47. It was left to 15-year-old captain Joe Hardbattle to protect his father John Hardbattle from the strike and score the winning runs.
