Hide AdBatting first Barby struggled to make headway as nobody could really come to terms with the vagaries of a poorly prepared pitch that saw some extravagant movement in all directions from start to finish.
With more established batsman lacking application it was left to third team skipper and Chairman John Hardbattle (32) together with his son Joe (17) and debutant Tom Stevenson (33 not out) to make the runs.

Under 13s skipper Alex Watson also making his debut also contributed late runs as Barby finished their innings at 171 for 9.
Skipper Rob Field was happy with runs on the board but that smile was quickly removed as Barby made a disastrous start with the ball. Everything that could go wrong did as no pressure was established and a number of relatively straight forward catches were grassed by the normally reliable fielding unit.

A game that should have been won slipped away and skipper Field will look forward to welcoming back the army of pacemen who all chose the same day to be away.
