Summary of Saturday’s game with pictures

After three defeats in pre-season against Warwick Uni, Fillongley and Rowland United, D&B’s first league weekend continued in the same vein with disappointing losses and just 4 points from each game. Although with the Bank Holiday affecting the availability strength things should hopefully pick up over the next few games.

South Northants Division 1

Dunchurch & Bilton 142

Castlethorpe 145-5

Castlethorpe won by 5 wickets

D&B slipped to defeat away to relegated Castlethorpe, although the home side lost early wickets chasing down the relatively small total. Jack Coleman made 64, Pankaj Dhokia 23* and Jack Farthing 21 (on 1st Team debut) in 142 all out. Paul Jordan and Matthew Garrett both took 2 wickets in reply.

South Northants Division 4

Braunston Paddox 202-7

Dunchurch & Bilton A 69

Braunston Paddox won by 133 runs

In a repeat of last seasons opening fixture, D&B 2nd XI hosted Braunston Paddox 1st XI in a Division 4 encounter. Both sides finished 4th & 5th last year and being a local derby, D&B looked to get off to a good start. Unfortunately the good start only lasted 4 overs as 3 of Braunston’s top order were back in the pavilion thanks to Steve Edden and new signing Simon Minney. This brought Darren Cox & Shaun Harnett together who began a counter attacking onslaught with the ball dispatched to all parts. It took until the score was 165 for both to be dismissed with Gareth Ellis accounting for Cox for 76 and Edden removing Harnett for 68. After some last over hitting the visitors were able to post 202-7. Edden took 12-2-38-3 and Bob Parsons 9-0-48-2.

After tea D&B’s poor show continued with Zane Doe removing leading run scorer Dan Greenway for a duck in the first over and thereafter wickets fell regularly as Doe (7-0-18-4) and Harnett (7-1-15-2) bowled a tight line as D&B slumped to 69 all out and an embarrassing 133 run defeat. Gareth Ellis provided some resistance with 27 but Braunston were deserving winners having outplayed D&B in all departments.
