Special game to commemorate Eric Palmer’s 50 years as treasurer
Presidents XI v
National Hunt Jockeys XI
Willoughby will be staging this 30-over charity match on Sunday (July 27) at 2pm, in honour and recognition of WCC Club President, Eric Palmer, who is celebrating 50 years as club treasurer this season.
Eric has selected a WCC President’s XI formed of current Willoughby CC players and guest players .
In keeping with his other passion and interest of horse racing, the opponents will be a National Hunt Jockeys XI who will be captained by the renowned former jockey – and close friend of Eric, Jody Mogford.
The team will be made up of current and former National Hunt racing jockeys, and it is anticipated many of the team will be high profile figures from the world of horse racing, along with many of the supporting crowd.
Proceeds from the day by way of a raffle draw will - by Eric’s request - be in aid of The Injured Jockeys Fund, who themselves quite fittingly are also celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.
Amongst the many prizes kindly donated to date include a hospitality day in a box for four persons at Warwick Races, a guided tour and hospitality at McPherson Stables in Stow-on-the-Wold, a gift from the Injured Jockeys Fund, and a family ticket to Alton Towers.
With a large crowd expected, gates will open from 12.30pm. Admission is free and parking will be clearly sign-posted nearby.
The club bar will be open with a barbecue and other refreshments also available.
