Memorial games

Sunday, August 10

Newbold Cricket Club will be staging two memorial games tomorrow (Sunday, August 10) for two young players who died at a very early age.

The club will be remembering Joe Spooner and Matt Davies, with funds raised at the Parkfield Road event going to two charities chosen by the boys’ families.

The Joe Spooner 20/20 game at 11am will see members of his family take on Newbold’s Rugby & District League 2nd XI.

Following a barbecue lunch, the Matt Davies’ 20/20 game at 3pm will see Newbold’s youth team play their Wednesday night 1st XI.

The cricket will be followed by presentations and entertainment at Newbold RFC.

Any sponsorship from local businesses would be very welcome.

Annual Tip & Run

There will be another great occasion at Parkfield Road on Sunday, August 24 with the return of the annual village tip & run tournament.

In a community day for all the family from 11am, teams representing pubs and groups in Newbold will be taking part. There will also be a bouncy castle and stalls, raffle and barbecue.

New Under 13s team

Newbold CC would like to develop young talent and start a new Under 13s team to enter the Rugby & District Cricket League next summer.

Youngsters going into Year 7 at school in September, who are interested in finding out more and attending a possible open day at the Parkfield Road club should email Danny Large at
