Bears beat Sharks by four wickets

A crowd of nearly 1,500 cricket enthusiasts enjoyed the chance to see top class competition at The Close yesterday (Monday).

Warwickshire Bears won the 50-over game against Sussex Sharks by four wickets, keeping alive their hopes of qualifying for the Royal London Cup quarter-finals.

Highlights of the day included a century for Bears’ William Porterfield, as his side chased Shark’s total of 217 all out.

George Bailey had been the visitors’ top scorer with 59, with Jeetan Patel taking 3-42 and Oliver Hannon-Dalby 3-46.

Warwickshire started badly in their reply, losing Varun Chopra and Jonathan Trott early on. The mainstays of the innings were Tim Ambrose with 34 and Javid on 42 not out, as Porterfield saw Warwickshire home in the 46th over.
