10-wicket win for first team

South Northants Cricket League

Division 1

Willoughby v MK Air

MK Air 112 all out

Willoughby 115 for 0

Willoughby won by 10 wickets

Willoughby made up for lost time as return to action after a rain-affected few weeks absence with a convincing win over MK Air.

The visitors batted first and were bowled out for 112, with only Vinod Kumar making 27 able to make any impression against the home attack which saw Lee Johnson return figures of 5 for 18.

In reply, James Barnwell and Robin Corrigan comfortably saw Willoughby to their target without losing a wicket; Barnwell finishing with an unbeaten 54 and Corrigan also not out and reaching his half century as Willoughby won by 10 wickets.

Division 4

Evenley B v Willoughby ‘A’

Evenley B 136 for 9

Willoughby A 118 all out

Evenley B won by 18 runs

The news was not so great for the Willoughby second string as their performance with the bat was the difference between victory and defeat.

Having won the toss, the visitors put Evenley into bat on a green lifeless wicket but kept the hosts down to 136 for 9 off their 40 overs. Karl Quinney returning figures of 3 for 16 off his 10 over spell, with Kamesh Ganti equally economical with 3 for 22. James Connor top scoring with 29, Charles Stotford making 27

In reply, Willoughby simply failed to apply themselves with the bat and with some rash shots and decision making plus a questionable LBW decision found themselves in all sorts of trouble early on.

At 30 for 6 inside 14 overs, the game was all but done and dusted. However Ian Andrews showed what can happen with a bit of application with the bat by working the field with singles and putting away the bad ball. Wickets fell around him, but together with Quinney their last wicket partnership looked to be offering a chance of victory. Their ninth wicket stand of 41 was only broken when the pair had retrieved matters to the point only 18 runs were needed off 22 balls, Andrews remaining unbeaten after a well-crafted 37 as Evenley won by 18 runs; James Connor taking 4 for 22 and Jay Walker 3 for 35.
