Kenilworth’s batting line-up come good to set up winning draw at Rugby

Kenilworth batted first, with openers Dave Edmunds (35) and James Nason 53 (5x4, 1x6) putting on 44 for the first wicket.

A second-wicket stand of 132 between Nason and Tom Booker 78 (10x4, 2x6) put Kenilworth in a strong position and the momentum continued with an unbroken stand of 97 between Chris Prophet (48 not out) and Neil Goodman (52 not out) for the fourth wicket.

Wilkins, with one for 33, was the best of the Rugby attack.

Rugby’s reply was kept in check by Kenilworth’s new-ball pair of Neil Goodman (1- 23) and Ian Baker (3-52), who reduced the hosts to 54 for three and then 97 for five.

Spinner Jorjeet Singh claimed one for 26 off 12 tidy overs and Phil Edmonds picked up two for 52 but an undefeated 90 from home skipper Edwards staved off defeat as Rugby finished on 201 for eight from their 50 overs.

An expertly paced run chase guided Kenilworth 2nds to a four-wicket win at RMCCC in Warwickshire Division Eight East.

Jono Sparks (1-17) struck an early blow for Kenilworth, but Hameed (51) and Mejaj (58) were the mainstays for the visitors as they posted 202 for six from their 45 overs.

Kenilworth’s openers Mark Deeley (37) and Mark Stranks (17) put on 51 for the first wicket and their good work was built on by Callum Jones (44) and Pat Howard (54).

Dan Horner then completed the task, scoring a fine 42 not out as Kenilworth reached their target with two overs to spare.

Kenilworth 3rds completed a fine Saturday for the club with a six-wicket win at home to Bidford-on-Avon in Cotswold Hills Division Seven.

Bidford were asked to bat first and a hostile spell from seamer Ed Smith (1-18 off ten overs) soon had the visitors struggling.

Bidford’s number three and skipper Dean steadied the ship with an unbeaten 57 and sensible batting lifted them to 178 for six from their 45 overs.

Young seamer Ryan Bull (2-26) bowled six tidy overs, while two run outs and a wicket for Chris Beech (1-21) kept the visitors in check.

Kenilworth’s reply was built around a sold 46 from opener Dave Howe and a hard-hitting 41 from number four Curtis Strange.

Ed Smith, with a quickfire 18, and youngster Nathan Chant with a composed 26 not out then saw Kenilworth home with three overs to spare.

Dean (2-35) and Farrow (2-13) both impressed for the visitors.

 A sparkling 109 from Pat Howard helped Kenilworth’s Sunday XI to a 36-run win at home to Birmingham side Coftonians.

Opener Vish Bora (24) and number three Adam Huxford (21) got the hosts off to a solid start before Howard smashed 13 fours and a six to bring up his maiden century, sharing in a stand of 118 with Danny Boneham (40) as Kenilworth ended on 228 for six from their 40 overs.

Mahmoud struck a fine 89 before Danny Bonham (3-38)removed him and the dangerous Rushi 43 in quick succession.

However, it was to be Howard’s day with a quality spell of left-arm seam bowling earning him figures of five for 30 as Coftonians ended on 192.
