Warwick bowlers suffer Street attack

Stockton consolidated their top-two position in Division One with a comfortable victory over fellow promotion rivals Warwick on Saturday.

Ed Russell won the toss and, despite a diminished bowling attack, chose to field first and took the responsibility, claiming an early wicket with the new ball.

This was the only joy for Stockton in the first 25 overs, however, as Steve Dyer and Ade Passey took control of proceedings for the visitors.

It was not until the introduction of Jake Hooker that Stockton got a foothold in the game as he removed Passey and the dangerous Ross Briscoe in quick succession.

At the other end, Andy Ward showed what a benefit his return to the club is proving to be, bowling unchanged for 15 high-quality overs and returning two for 44.

When Hooker (2-21) finished his seven-over allocation, Owen Edwards (2-26) joined the attack and finally accounted for Dyer (73).

Warwick never really regained any momentum and were restricted to 167 for eight from their 50 overs.

Stockton’s reply started in similar fashion with the loss of an early wicket, but in-form duo Bhavik Rathod (38) and Terry Cooper (37) put their side on top.

Three quick wickets gave Warwick a sniff but John Street (46) struck some trademark towering sixes to get his side over the line.

He was well-supported by Greg Campbell (17 not out) and, although Marc Passey (3-41) claimed two wickets late in the piece, Stockton eased home with four wickets and 12 overs in the bag.
