Folkard finishes well clear of the field in two-day Kendal Bowmen shoot

World Games gold medallist Naomi Folkard and fellow Leamington archer Martin Sandwell produced fine performances at the Kendal Bowmen’s two-day field shoot near Sedburgh in Cumbria.

Folkard won the ladies’ recurve gold, while relative newcomer to the sport Sandwell was fourth in the gents’ barebow category.

Archers shot the 24 target FITA rounds, with unmarked distances on the first day and marked distances on the second.

Folkard shot 360 and 334 for the unmarked and marked courses, respectively, to finish ahead of Edinburgh University’s Emma Downie (543pts).

In only his second major two-day field shoot, Sandwell shot 278 and 176 to finish 105 points behind first-placed Jeff Williams (Pentref).

He said: “It was a great weekend - I really enjoyed the experience.”
