Club first for Kenilworth’s ladies

Kenilworth Town’s ladies’ side have been accepted into the FA Women’s Cup for the first time.

Town gained promotion to the Birmingham County Women’s League Premier Division last season, making them eligible for the competition.

They are due to face Coventry Sphinx or Southam United in the second round after being handed a first-round bye.

Club secretary Matthew Sewell said: “We’re really proud of the work that Andy Brooks and the ladies’ side have put in over the last few years.

“They’ve improved each season and have now come the whole way from being a girls’ team to a fully fledged ladies’ side.

“They’re now leading the way for the rest of the club, being the first side we’ve ever had in a national cup competition.”
