Corbett leaves Brakes for hometown club

The 26-year-old Worcester-born striker scored 67 goals in 132 appearances for Leamington, taking the goalscoring award last season despite the emergence of James Rowe and Jacob Blyth relegating him to the bench for much of the second half of the campaign.

His departure had been expected, with Brakes unable to compete with the pull of his hometown club.

However, Brakes boss Paul Holleran did not rule out a New Windmill return for the 26-year-old.

“I understand Luke’s reasons,” said Holleran. “It is an opportunity to play at the level above and also the lure of it being his hometown club.

“He has been a good servant to Leamington and helped the club secure and then maintain Southern League Premier Division status.

“We thank him for his efforts and wish him the very best for the future. The door will always remain open for him.”

Meanwhile, as reported in the Midweek Courier, Brakes have snapped up young Bedworth United defender Kyle Cartwright.

Cartwright was an impressive figure at the heart of the Greenbacks defence last season after joining from Nuneaton Griff.

Holleran said: “Kyle followed a similar path to young Jacob Blyth in making the step up from the Midland Combination Premier Division to the Southern League Central Division last season and played 35 to 40 games.

“He is athletic, composed, a good size and clearly has potential.”
