Coton Green join the long list of Whitnash’s MidComb scalps

Whitnash were 1-0 up in the fifth minute with Mike Ellis firing home from eight yards after a headed lay-off from Paul Wilkinson.

The early goal settled Whitnash and they continued to play some attractive football on a heavy playing surface.

Kev McGarvey was in fine form on his return to the first team and it was his curling free-kick on the half-hour which deceived the home keeper to make it 2-0.

Whitnash continued the high tempo after the break and the Midland Combination Division One outfit were unable to cope.

Ryan Billington was a constant threat down the flanks and his pace led to a corner which was headed home from close range by Lee Scott.

After injury forced McGarvey off, Jake Montgomery moved to a central role behind the front men and was soon making his mark, finishing off a neat pull-back from Ryan Harris.

Player-coach Simon Rea was brought on for his first appearance of the season and the former Birmingham City and Peterborough United defender had a hand in Town’s fifth, laying the ball off for Ryan Harris, whose cross was forced home by Montgomery for his second of the game.

Whitnash Reserves again overcame higher-league opposition to progress in the Foleshill Charity Cup.
