FOOTBALL: Giant killers pull off surprises in Sunday League cup week

The cup quarter-finals got under way this week in the Rugby & District Sunday Football League, with some very surprising results.

In the Advertiser Cup, the giant killers came out.

Division three Paddox Vets beat division two side United Prince of Wales 6-3. Vets goals came from Andrew Gilroy, Justin Strange and a Dave Rawes hat-trick. Darius Keynejad scored all three for United PoW.

Division two team Hillmorton beat division one team Webb Ellis Eagles 6-0. Kasey Hughes hit 4, Sean Rye and Shane Vince netting the others.

Bar 8 FC won 5-0 over Hillmorton Old Boys. Tony Cole scored a hat-trick, with goal of the game from Jordan Jackson.

The biggest surprise was Division three Rugby Borough Vets winning 5-4 over luckless division one side Caldecott Arms. Boro’ scorers were Chris Latham 2, Kevin O’Connor, Mike Reesby and Lee Trainer.

In the Hospital Cup for Rugby & District Sunday Football League teams, there were three out of four games played.

Royal Oak beat Rugby Celts 7-1 and Webb Ellis Lions beat The Bell 3-2.

CRC Reserves were 5-0 victors over Stag and Pheasant Newton with goals from Adam Neale, Lewis Halcrow, Joel Dawes, Scott and an own goal.

This week’s games (March 1) all kicking off at 11am: Division One: Webb Ellis Lions v Royal Oak United.

Division Two: Bar 8 FC v Braunston, Stag and Pheasant Newton v CRC Reserves, United Prince of Wales v Rugby Celts
