FOOTBALL: Late own goal levels matters for Bell and Oak

The Rugby & District Sunday Football League resumed after the festive break this week with plenty of action over the leagues and cup.

In Division 1, two title contenders faced off as league leaders Royal Oak United and The Bell fought to an epic 2-2 draw.

League leaders Royal Oak went ahead before The Bell equalised through Johnny Lee.

Royal Oak regained the lead before The Oak scored an own goal in the dying moments of the game.

In Division 2, Braunston’s penalty woes continue as they missed another one, this time against CRC Reserves to lose 3-2.

Scorers for Braunston were Fraser Quinn and Dave Sharpe. Lewis Halcrow with a brace and Kelvin Pugh were on target for CRC.

Bar 8 FC recorded their first league points of the season as they came from a half time loss to beat Daventry Town Jaguars 5-4.

Chevez Walder scored two, captain Connor Shaw, Claudio Duarte and a 40-yard screamer from James Goodwin sealed the win for Bar 8.

Daventry Town Jaguars goals came from Kian Daniels, George Price and two own goals from Bar 8 keeper Daniel Marfa.

Rugby Celts stayed second with a 4-2 win over Prince of Wales, whose goals from Josh Tooley and Michael Reynolds.

Stag and Pheasant Newton hosted Hillmorton with the visitors winning 3-0. Hillmorton’s scorers were Alfie Speed, Jay Lawes and Kasey Hughes.

In division 3, Paddox beat GE Victoria 4-1.

The only game in the Open Cup saw Hillmorton Old Boys win 2-1 over vets rivals Rugby Borough Vets. Rugby Borough vets goal from Chris Latham.

CRC 1st team were in the county cup where due to circumstances beyond their control, the game will need to be replayed.

A friendly game was also played between division 1 team Caldecott Arms and division 2 team The George with the latter team winning 10-0.

Division 2: Braunston vBar 8 FC, CRC Res v Prince of Wales, Hillmorton v Daventry Town Jaguars, The George v Rugby Celts.

Division 3: Paddox v Rugby Borough Vets

CRC 1st are again in the County Cup.
