Rugby Town Juniors’ £500k pitch project at Kilsby Lane will be opened by Rugby MP Mark Pawsey today (Friday).

The FIFA 2 Star 3G astroturf surface has been funded by Sport England, Wren and the club.

Work began in May and completed in time for the new season.

Representatives from the Football Association, Sport England, Wren, McDonalds and Nationwide windows will also be present.

To kick off the opening celebrations the club’s teams will stage a Reds v Blues all day game, with everyone playing on the pitch.

There will also be demonstrations from the club’s walking football team, girls’ football, Coerver Coaching and Rugby St Andrews RFC playing tag rugby.

The club have also put on a funfair with the official opening at 2pm.

Everyone is welcome to go along and see the launch of this new community facility and entry is free. The club’s refreshment areas will be open.

On Wednesday the all-weather pitch was due to host a four-team tournament between U16/17 academy players from Rugby Town, Coventry City, Aston Villa and Wolves.
