A ‘Rosey’ future for AFC Woods United
AFC Woods United has once again secured sponsorship from Ron and Alma Bye of The Roseycombe for the 2016-17 season. They play in the Coventry Alliance League Division one and have made great progress since they formed a Saturday team two seasons ago.
Ron and Alma have now sponsored the local club since 1999, and have helped by providing many lads with the team kit to play football. Without their help, many of these players would not be able to afford to play at such a high level. Ron said: “I am really pleased to be connected to AFC Woods United and happy that we can help youngsters in Binley Woods feel proud to wear the kit. Having our name on the shirts is just an offspin from this.”
Chairman of AFC Woods, Frank McNamara said: “The Roseycombe is our ‘clubhouse’ and the teams are encouraged to go back after the match where Alma provides food for both home and away players. It is the generosity and friendship of people like Ron and Alma that create a lasting memory for these lads, and it is well received. We cannot thank them enough.”
Since joining the Coventry Alliance in 2014, the team have achieved great success winning Division Three, The Benevolent Cup and the Major Boyd Carpenter cup in their first season, and finishing runners-up in Division Two and in two semi-finals last season.
