This morning (October 23) There’s only one game in Division One, which is the Royal Oak v Athletico on pitch 2 at Winfield. Griffin and Lawford are in the County Cup.
In Division Two there’s Holly Bush v Rugby FC, Webb v Quigleys (Winfield pitch 1), Drayton Grange v Avon Mill, Braunston v Caldecott and CRC Res v Royal Oak Reserves.
Last Sunday Barley Mow went head to head with The Griffin in a good old fashioned game of football. Plenty of good hard tackling but fair and very entertaining to watch. Played at pace throughout, the Barley went ahead in the 11th minute.
They won a corner and made their height advantage tell when Craig Macauley rose above everyone to head home. A minute later they hit the cross bar when it would have been easier to score. Both sides had further chances, but it remained 1-0 at the break.
In the second half the Barley began to boss the game for the first 20 minutes. Nathan Clarke saw his 20-yard effort saved by Jak Gwillam in the Griffin goal. The Griffin then had their best chance to pull back but Jason Hands in the Barley goal got a leg to it and turned the shot wide. It took a super strike in the 63rd minute when Lee Golding fired home from 22 yards out.
Nathan Clarke then saw his 20-yard effort tipped over for a corner by Gwillam, who was having a great game.
Both teams then had chances from close range but fired well over the bar. The Griffin did pull one back in the 86th minute when a ball from the keeper went over everyone and Jack Curtis lobbed it over the keeper. The Griffin pushed to find an equaliser but the Barley held out to take the points.
Athletico Belbao were hit with a major injury list and had to kick off against CRC with nine men. Unfortunately they found CRC in top form and Athletico were soundly beaten 10-0.
Lawford overcame the challenge from Clifton Bulls beating them 6-3. Dildale Linton hit a hat-trick and Sean Castleton, Curtis Tailby and Jim Farrow added singles.
In Division 2 Drayton Grange beat CRC Reserves 4-2, which sees CRC Reserves drop from top spot to third. Goals from John Bunker and Lee Peake helped Webb Ellis beat Braunston 2-1. Ryan Buckley got the Braunston goal. Royal Oak Reserves and the Holly Bush drew 2-2 and Rugby FC beat a nine-man Quigleys 3-1 and go to the top of the division. Luke Muldoone, Jack Cannell and Lloyd Senna scored the goals for Rugby.
The Avon Mill pulled off a 7-1 victory against bottom club Caldecott Arms, who are still looking for points. Tynan Jones hit four, Tom Protheroe a brace and Joe Pruden added a single.
