League Cup semi-final on March 27 too
Premier Division South
U18s: Rugby Town Juniors Youth 3 Stourbridge 1:
With four games left and Alvechurch waiting for the Town to slip up. The big test came on Monday when a Stourbridge side, who the previous week had beaten Alvechurch 1-0 in the Worcestershire County Cup semi-final, came calling.
They piled on the pressure and took an early lead. Town then started to see some possession and forced them back into their own half with some slick passing and off the ball movement.
This led to Town drawing level with Sam Lockey providing the finishing touch. When Lockey was upended in the area, the resulting spot kick smashed off the post and was cleared.
The second half possession stats read 72% Rugby but at 1-1 and Stourbridge using the counter attack to good effect, the next goal was going to be important.
And so it proved with Rugby taking a deserved lead after some good interplay between Roy Lockley and Alex Webb, Cameron rifling the ball into the bottom corner. Stourbridge were not going to lie down and a defensive mix up allowed the Stour 9 a free shot which whizzed past the post.
Town wrapped the game up when on a counter attack of their own the speedy Lockley slipped the ball over the out-rushing keeper’s head to finish the game off.
# Town’s next game is against Lye Town on Monday (March 20) at Kilsby Lane, ko 7.45pm.
Town have been drawn at home to Rushall Olympic in the semi-final of the League Cup on Monday, March 27 on the 3G at Kilsby Lane ko 7.45pm. All welcome at both games.
