Lions face other champions from around the country

Rugby Town U11 Lions went to ACES Nationals to represent Rugby on Sunday, July 5.

Ethan Fox, team captain, took centre stage to help with the draw of each group.

The Lions were up against North London, Huntingdon, Peterborough, Brighton, Harrow and Milton Keynes. All teams attending the nationals are all champions from their own areas.

Rugby progressed out of the group stages by winning one, drawing three and losing two, to reach the quarter-finals. This put Rugby in the top 16 teams in the UK.

They were drawn out to play the favourites Portsmouth. During the game Rugby took the lead with a goal from Joe. Portsmouth soon equalised before the half time whistle.

In the second half Rugby stood strong with some great defensive work but Portsmouth took the lead with 30 seconds to spare, sending Rugby home.

Gary and Ade would like to say a huge well done to all the boys who attended the Nationals, they are so proud of them all. Also thank you to the parents for their support.
