Two Rugby Town teams top their groups
U13s: (Boys sponsored by Unite the Union, Juniors sponsored by Cemex).
Rugby Town U13 Boys entered the Bedworth Eagles tournament for the third successive year, with a much improved squad. The 11v11, ten minute games started in the group stages with a 1-0 win over Cov Copsewood Green, followed by a 0-0 draw with Hartshill, and further wins against Ambleside Aztecs and Haunchwood Sports Saints, that saw Rugby Town Boys top the group with 10 points.
Also in the tournament were Rugby Town Juniors with the two Rugby sides managing to avoid each other in the group stages.
The Juniors opened with a draw against Bartley Reds South, and followed by wins against Bedworth Eagles, Bulkington Sports and Bedworth United. This saw the Juniors also top their group which meant the two Rugby Town sides had again missed each other in the semi-finals, with the potential of an all Rugby final.
The Boys got straight into their attacking football and managed to get two goals ahead of Bulkington with their fifth consecutive clean sheet of the tournament, to produce another fine display taking them into the final.
The Juniors played Haunchwood which ended goalless after the ten minutes and were unlucky to go out of the competition on penalties, after they had not conceded a single goal in open play throughout the tournament.
The final was an evenly matched game with The Boys having several chances, but Haunchwood took the lead from a free kick which found the back of the net through a crowed goal mouth.
Rugby then hit the bar before finding the equaliser. Again the Boys were playing attacking football and missed opportunities to take the lead before Haunchwood found the net with about two minutes to go, leaving the Boys to finish as runners-up.
A good display by both Rugby Town U13 sides who came up against some strong opposition.
