FOOTBALL: Want a career in football?

School leavers football trial days in half term - February 17 and 18

Strachan Football Foundation are hosting two days of trials at Rugby Town JFC, Kilsby Lane on February 17-18 for school leavers and any 16-18 year olds looking for a career in the industry and coaching.

The trials will include training and team based classroom activities throughout the two days, as well as interviews with Strachan Football Foundation staff.

Coaches include George Mackie, Dan Elliott, Chay Thompson and guest appearance from former Aston Villa U21s manager Kevin McDonald.

Dan Elliott Founder/Director of the Foundation spoke of the progress the foundation is making, “To think of the progress made in under three years - we have four teams playing week in week out from u18′s to u21′s, have gained a place in the ECFA (English Colleges) National Premier League playing the top teams in college football.

We have produced our first professional player in Luke Leahy who signed a two year contract at Falkirk FC in Scotland and have had four lads trial at Nottingham Forest U21s in the summer of 2013. We have also delivered over 230 qualifications in under three years.

Our second annual primary schools tournament in May was a great experience for all involved and was attended by 14 schools around Rugby.

“Another achievement has been the success of our learners finding employment in sports coaching in the UK and overseas. We have had four former apprentices earn nine-month contracts in the USA working for Evolution Soccer Programmes and this number will increase up to 15 coaches for 2014.”

In partnership with Heart of England Training, 16-18s have the opportunity to continue their education and develop as a footballer whilst gaining qualifications in sport, sports coaching, sports development, literacy and numeracy. The foundation offers young people an alternative to college and 6th form.
