Football Development Schools
Football Development Schools returned home from this year’s Kokkola Cup in Finland with all four teams very happy after winning all four age groups entered.
It is a huge achievement for the company, which saw teams take on opposition from all over the world. Three boys who train every Tuesday at the Rugby College development centre were amongst the winning teams, Finley Thomas, 11, Milan Pescott, 10 and Zach Loman, 10, all played vital roles in helping FDS to lift the Kokkola Cup for their respective age groups.
FDS are based in Market Harborough and run various soccer schools throughout the year. The development centre is for players who have impressed at soccer schools or in school clubs. The youngsters have many exciting opportunities offered to them if they continue to impress, one of which being the annual trip to Finland. For boys who continue to excel there is potential to attend trials for West Bromwich Albion.
All three Rugby boys have attended FDS for many years and began the tournament with five wins, before drawing their final group game. They performed spectacularly in the semi-final, beating their opponents 5-1. The last day saw the final and after a penalty shootout FDS were crowned champions for the U10 age group.
This began the theme for the day with the U11, U12 and U16s all winning their age groups. The English players make up part of the team with the other players being locals from Finland.
It is an excellent experience for the players, who as well as enjoying their football also gain lots more from the five-day tournament.
FDS are running soccer schools this summer at Rugby College, the course cost is just £8, which includes a free cinema ticket. Dates are August 6-7 and August 20-21.
