Halesowen Hell could happen to any of us

Paul Holleran says the demise of Halesowen is a stark warning to the rest of the Zamaretto League Premier Division.

A ten-point deduction for entering administration overshadowed their 2009/10 campaign, while this season Yeltz find themselves struggling on the pitch just one point off bottom spot and shipping goals at an alarming rate.

And, following Tuesday’s 3-0 midweek win over his former employers, Holleran had some sympathy for their plight.

“You’ve got to feel sorry for them,” said Holleran, who led Halesowen to the FA Cup first round in 2005. “Only five or six years ago when I was there it was a club similar to where Leamington are now with a good fanbase and fans willing to do a lot for the club.

“There’s a lesson to be learned. It only needs the wrong man to come in and look what can happen.”

Holleran was pleased with the way his side approached the Halesowen clash, despite them taking more than an hour to break the deadlock.

However, he knows Brakes are in for a tougher task tomorrow when the entertain Banbury.

“We totally dominated and passed the ball well. The only criticism is the chances we missed. You take the early chances and you can steamroller them.

“Tomorrow is a tougher test. They’ve gone to Cambridge and got a result and they’re a stubborn side. If we play well and we’re at I’ll be looking for us to win the game.

“They’re a bit stronger than Halesowen and with players like Declan Benjamin and David Stone they can hurt you. But being brutally honest, we’ve got to be looking at winning games like this.”
