As a member of the MSA Academy, King was invited to join the organisation’s Team UK brigade and the country’s newest F1 driver, Max Chilton, for a learning and development day at the club’s state-of-the-art academy in Surrey.

He and his Team UK comrades were put through their paces by the club’s youth squad in an outing televised during BBC1’s pre-Spanish Grand Prix qualifying show last weekend.

“I really enjoyed it,” said King. “It was an amazing day and brought back so many memories.

“I used to play a lot of football before I began racing, so it was a fantastic opportunity to slip the boots back on and return to the pitch.

“In some senses, it was a mini dream of mine come true to play with an academy.”
