Jonny Harkin scored twice in the 2-1 win at Littleton last Saturday, once from the spot, and was again on the scoresheet in Monday’s 5-2 thrashing of Alvis.

However, it was Jonathon McRobb who did the damage against Alvis, helping himself to a hat-trick, with player-manager Michael Hayden also on the scoreseheet.

Harkin’s first-team goals continued a rich vein of scoring form, with the teenager also grabbing a brace as Racing Club’s youth team beat Cheltenham Saracens 4-0 to wrap up the Midland Floodlit Youth League’s Southern title.

Strike partner Troy Stephens also scored twice as Racers swept their visitors away to wrap up the championship with two matches still to play.

The title completed a memorable season for manager Terry Protheroe who praised the level of commitment shown by “an outstanding group of players”.

“We have the best squad in the league and I wouldn’t swap any of the players we currently have,” said Protheroe.

“Many of these boys will go on to play at a high level providing they stay fit and focused.”

And while Protheroe was praising the squad, fitness coach Oliver Jones picked out one player for a special mention.

“It was good to see James Mudie return to action late in the game as part of his return to full fitness after a serious knee injury,” said Jones. “We have missed his strength and natural wing play.”
