Play-off chasing Valley slip up to 13th-placed side
Rugby Town let a 1-0 half-time lead slip to go down 2-1 at Potters Bar Town on Saturday.
Richard Gregory put Valley ahead in the 38th minute, but the hosts levelled in the 57th and went on to secure the win just six minutes from time.
Town’s lacklustre performance keeps them in fourth place in Evostik Southern League Central Division One, level on 62 points with fifth-placed Royston Town, but with a game in hand, having played 33 to Royston’s 34.
Leaders Kettering look uncatchable in the automatic promotion spot with 77 points (33 games), with Bedworth second on 68 (34 games) and Aylesbury third on 66 (33 games).
Town need to finish in the top five to go into the play-offs, but need to hold off the challenge of Hanwell (58 points from 32 games) and Barton (55 points from 31 games) in sixth and seventh respectively.
Tomorrow evening (Tuesday) Rugby have another away trip, this time to eighth-placed St Ives, who trail on 49 points from their 32 games. This is a re-arranged game from January 31.
Town will then have just eight matches left in their campaign to secure a play-off place.
