Rugby Town's amazing exploits over the last week have undoubtedly blown a big hole in the club's record books, after they smashed in twenty goals in back-to-back Butlin Road UCL fixtures.

Valley followed up on a 8-0 win over Sleaford on Saturday with a 12-0 midweek romp against Desborough, with the six point haul lifting Town up to third place in the Premier Division table.

The first victory had represented a best league performance for the club for 36 years, but having laid down a marker with that Sleaford scoreline, Rugby then hit the bullseye on Tuesday and surpassed their previous record in senior football - which was a whopping home success over Malvern in Valley's last ever game in the West Midlands League Premier Division in May 1983.

Club founder Keith Coughlan acknowledged the achievement: "This has surpassed the 11-0 Malvern victory, but there may be bigger ones from the club's time in the junior leagues in the formative years, so I guess I will have to dust down the archives and check this out!"

Keith continued: "I'm fairly certain it is unprecedented to have recorded consecutive scores of this size in such a short space of time though , and it has also been suggested that the five goals scored within eight minutes on Saturday may also be a record too."

Town also managed four in nine first half minutes against Desborough on Tuesday evening, as new signing Danico Johnson opened his account with a four goal heist following his return to the fold last week.

Johnson had somehow struck a blank in the Sleaford blitz, with strike partner Dylan Parker following up on his weekend treble with four more against Desborough to shoot to the top of Rugby's scoring charts with eleven goals.

Town boss Carl Adams was understandably delighted with how the past week had gone.

He said: "I was really disappointed with the Northampton Chenecks defeat, but the lads have responded well and to score twenty goals in two games is a phenomenal achievement.

"I think people expected us to put a few past Sleaford, but to then go on and get even more against Desborough and play so well in the process is very pleasing.

"We've got a couple of tough games coming up though, so we won't be getting carried away, but the table is looking a lot healthier for us now and it's important we don't let it slip again."

Next up for Town is a trip this Saturday to mid-table Rothwell Corinthians, with another away fixture the following weekend at Deeping - who sit a place below Town on goal difference.
