Marlow 2 Rugby Town 3

A late goal by Justin Marsden secured the win for Rugby Town on Saturday, after their hosts had twice levelled the game.

Richard Gregory put Valley ahead in the 31st minute. Marlow equalised five minutes later before Seb Lake-Gaskin made it 2-1 on the stroke of half time. The home side fought back to 2-2 in the 76th but Marsden earned the points for Rugby with an 83rd-minute winner.

With Evo-Stik Central division leaders Kettering beating third placed Aylesbury 1-0 at the weekend and second-placed Bedworth drawing 1-1 with Barton Rovers, Rugby are still fourth, but the gap is closing.

Kettering seem uncatchable on 67 points from 29 games, with Bedworth second on 62 from 30. Aylesbury and Rugby both have 59 points, while Aylesbury have a game in hand, having played 30 to Rugby’s 31.

Hanwell Town in fifth on 55 and Barton in sixth on 52 have only played 29, while still in contention Royston in seventh, also on 52 points have played 30.
