Saturday’s victory over Northwood lifts Valley back into play-off zone

Rugby earned three valuable points in their play-off quest on Saturday, beating Northwood 2-1 at Butlin Road.

Richard Gregory put Town ahead in the 24th minute, but the celebrations were short-lived as the visitors equalised just three minutes later. Seb Lake-Gaskin then put Rugby ahead again just before half time and it was enough to secure a win over the tenth-placed side.

This afternoon (Easter Monday) league leaders Kettering are the visitors to Butlin Road, needing just one point to become Evostik Southern League Central Division One champions. The game kicks off at 3pm.

Rugby are now in fifth spot on 70 points, behind Barton on 72, Royston on 74 and second-placed Aylesbury on 76. Bedworth in sixth are on 69, but have a game in hand.

The competition for the four play-off spots is still desperately close, with after today, just three more games left to play against AFC Hayes (April 11), Daventry (April 18) and Royston (April 25).
