Manager Dale Belford’s last game in charge ended with a 2-1 defeat by Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

The Barnsley side finish second in NPL South, having gone into the game with an outside chance of the title and automatic promotion place. But Stafford Rangers’ 1-1 draw at Coalville Town, was enough to keep top spot.

At Butlin Road Shaw Lane went ahead just before half time and added another on the hour, with Rugby’s Jake Healy netting in the 87th minute.

Having mounted a challenge for the last play-off place in recent weeks, Rugby Town end the season in a respectable ninth place, far exceeding early season expectations when Belford took over.
