Southam facing a fixture backlog

Saints manager Luke Fogarty is desperate for his side to return to action after a blank week which has left his side with 17 matches to cram into the remaining weeks of the season.

Having been without a league fixture last Saturday, Tuesday night’s match against Castle Vale JKS was called off by referee Richard Cutts following a morning inspection of the waterlogged Banbury Road pitch.

After their recent wobble, Fogarty had been hoping his side would rediscover the winning form that had lifted them into the top half of the table.

Cup defeats at Fairfield Villa and at home to Continental Star, coupled with a 4-2 league reverse against Walsall Wood, have meant a miserable three weeks for Saints, who now only have the Coventry Telegraph Challenge Cup left to take something out of their season.

Fogarty is looking to build for the future and wants a top-six finish to provide a platform for his young side to mount a serious title challenge next year.

Saints will expect three points tomorrow when they visit struggling Alveston, a match that sees Tunde Ajibade, Charlie Neale and Jack Taylor return to their former club.
