Rugby Gaels recorded a remarkable 22-point win on Thursday night, scoring a club record 8 goals, 5 of which came from the boot of the outstanding Connor Shaw at Newbold RFC.

The start of the game was delayed by thunder and lightning and the Gaels were slow off the mark, O’Rahillys scoring the opening goal in the wet conditions. Rugby began to assert themselves up front and two goals from Connor Shaw, one each from Alex Baalham Donaldson and Neil Merrigan and a spectacular 30-yard effort that flew into the roof of the net from Lewis Fairgrieves had Rugby well in control at half time: 5 goals 6 points (21 points) to 2 goals and 4 points (10 points).

The Gaels didn’t let up second half with Connor Shaw grabbing his hat-trick early on. Points from Chris Breen, Danny Walshe and Ben O’Riordan kept the scoreboard ticking over before Connor Shaw grabbed his fourth and fifth goals. The last goal following an excellent 30-yard foot pass from Brandon Clarke to complete a personal tally of 17 points for the game.
