GOLF: Charlie beats 250+ applicants to win scholarship
Rugby golfer Charlie Price has won a year-long scholarship offered by PGA Fellow Anders Mankert, head professional at Cosby Golf Club in Leicestershire.
He beat a record 250+ applicatnts for Mankert’s fourth award to under 18s.

Hide AdCharlie, 15, a junior at Rugby’s Clifton Road club, with a 12-handicap, was selected by Mankert and his judging panel of former Ireland and Leicester Tigers rugby player Geordan Murphy and snooker star and commentator Willie Thorne.
Mankert said: “I was absolutely delighted by the high quality and the number of applicants for my latest scholarship. It was 50 more than on the last occasion when I named a girl for the first time, but admittedly this year, boys were the vast majority of entrants.
“I have met Charlie already and I am confident we will work well together to help him to achieve his target to improve and develop his golf over the coming months.
“In addition to coaching him towards lowering his handicap, I will give him any other help and advice he may need, including about equipment, fitness, nutrition and diet, preparing for tournaments, and course management.

Hide AdThe first two scolarship recipients have gone on to be professional golfers, one on the European tour.
Mankert added: “It is a real privilege to work with such talented and dedicated youngsters and to see them develop in a game that could bring them a lifetime of enjoyment in so many ways.”
