Bilton Grange Under 11 and Under 12 hockey teams secured the double when they both won the county championship in their age group.
The Under 12 boys took the county title with four wins and a draw, scoring nine times and keeping a clean sheet in each of the five, 12-minute matches.
Ollie Park, in goal, was rarely tested but was at his best when he needed to be. BG looked comfortable throughout, and it was only Warwick’s keeper that kept his side in the game by repelling the goal-bound efforts of Noah Martle, Alex Jackson, Jonty Craven and Angus Robinson. Mathew Nobes, Ben Harris, Harry Mitchell, Theo Davenport and Marcus Tarrant played some splendid possession hockey, feeding the ball through once the opportunity to do so had been created. Goals came from Martle (4), Tarrant (2), Craven, Robinson and Jackson.
BG now goes on to represent Warwickshire at the Midlands Championships on Friday, April 26 at Cannock.
For the Under 11s, the Colts A squad travelled to KES in Birmingham to compete in the county tournament keen to defend the title that was won last year.
The first match was won against Blue Coat School. Next up were Coughton Court and the Colts A were in fine form, attacking at will down the flanks through Jacob and Matthew White with the pair scoring a brace each.
The final group game against Solihull resulted in a draw, but BG could progress on goal difference as group winners to face Warwick in the semi final. Having beaten them they faced Solihull again.
Matthew White scored from such a narrow angle even spectators were surprised, and despite some nervy moments with a succession of penalty corners for Solihull, Henry King in goal reacted well to ensure that the team became county champions. A pleasing afternoon of hockey that now sees the Colts A heading off to the Midlands Finals at Nottingham Highfields.
